West Indies, South Africa players will play in Women’s exhibition T20 matches

The players from six countries are all set to take part in the women’s exhibition matches which are scheduled to be held during the playoffs of Indian Premier League (IPL 2019). Last year, Australia, England, New Zealand players were there in the squad alongside India players. According to ESPNCricinfo on Monday, some of the international players including West Indies’ Deandra Dottin and captain Stafanie Taylor, South Africa captain Dane van Niekerk and pacer Marizanne Kapp, and Sri Lanka captain Chamari Atapattu.

Along with them, Australia’s Meg Lanning, Ellyse Perry, Alyssa Healy and Megan Schutt, New Zealand’s Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine, and England’s Danielle Wyatt are expected to take part in the games. All the players are part of Australia’s Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and England’s Kia Super League (KSL). However, the teams will play against each other in one round-robin league. All the games will be played at one venue in Chennai. It is likely to be the venue for the IPL 2019 final which will be on May 12.

However, last year one exhibition match was played in Mumbai between the Supernovas and the Trailblazers. India T20 captain Harmanpreet Kaur led the Supernovas while Smriti Mandhana led the Trailblazers. Though the game was televised. The crowd turnout was very low at the Wankhede Stadium as the game started at 2 pm on a weekday.
