Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has again reached the top of the IPL 2019 points table by with the help of another dominating performance at home at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. On Tuesday, they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by seven wickets and continued the dominance. Subsequently, MS Dhoni and his men now have 5 wins under their belt in six games. On the contrary, KKR moved down to the second position.
Citing the expectation of the heavy dew, CSK won the toss and elected to field first and the decision churned out rich dividends for them as they reduced the visitors to 44 for five in the ninth over. Most of the top order batsmen got out while attempting to go over the top. Deepak Chahar got the crucial wickets of Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa, and Nitish Rana. Uthappa smashed two fours, however, couldn’t get going.

Dinesh Karthik looked in some form during his knock of 19, but Imran Tahir was just too good for him. Shubman Gill became Tahir’s second victim. Then, it was all about Andre Russell show, despite struggling during his knock, he farmed the strike and notched his half-century in 44 balls with three sixes and five fours. His knock helped KKR post 108/9 in 20 overs.
During the chase, the CSK batsmen came out all guns blazing as Shane Watson scored 12 runs off Piyush Chawla in the first over before getting out to Sunil Narine after scoring 17 runs from nine deliveries. Suresh Raina looked positive, but an unbelievable catch from Chawla sent him packing. The Super Kings had scored 35 runs in five overs and were well and truly in the commanding position.

The required rate never both the men in yellow as Faf du Plessis along with Ambati Rayudu kept on rotating the strike and kept chipping away at the target. The boundaries were a rare commodity, still, CSK managed to find a way out. Rayudu perished to a horrendous stroke of Chawla after scoring 21. Du Plessis remained unbeaten on 43 from 45 balls with three boundaries and saw his team over the line with almost three overs to spare.
Brief Score:
Chennai Super Kings – 111/3 in 17.2 overs (Faf du Plessis: 43*, A Rayudu: 21; S Narine: 2/24) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders – 108/9 in 20 overs (A Russell: 50*; D Chahar: 3/20, H Singh; 2/15) by 7 wickets and 16 balls to spare.

Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham: 3 hrs 31 minutes.
CSK vs KKR: 3 hrs 30 minutes. The first one was entertaining because of first half, the second one was boring for the same reason. #IPL

Easy win for #CSK though the match had its moments. On a pitch if this nature, batsmen getting substantial knocks — Russell, du Plessis — would rate very high. But my MOM would be Deepak Chahar. Dealt such blows in his first spell, KKR just couldn’t recover

Impressed with Dre Russ the different role he had to play today. The only reason @KKRiders didn't score less than @RCBTweets 7️⃣0️⃣ was because of his uncharacteristic but responsible 5️⃣0️⃣🔥#CSKvKKR #AndreRussell #IPL2019 #VIVOIPL #Cricket https://t.co/rl7KP6njwj

Three wickets in six games for Kuldeep. It seems batsmen are playing him a little better this season…. #CSKvKKR #IPL

There should be a bonus point for finishing games early. Making low scoring games a lil more exciting #CSKvKKR

Faf du Plessis showed his class in that innings. Calm, composed & matured. What brilliant form he is in. 54 in 1st IPL match of season, 43* now. Since the start of year he's averaged 76.50 in Tests. 71.16 in ODIs & 49.50 in T20Is. Good Nos before the year too. #CSKvKKR #IPL2019
