S Sreesanth faced the life ban in 2014

Indian pacer S Sreesanth’s life ban has again come under threat as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has filed an appeal in Kerala High Court against the lifting of the lifetime ban.

BCCI went on to say that Kerala High Court’s decision was against the existing criteria.
As per reports of ANI, BCCI has appealed against Kerala HC’s previous judgment of lifting the lifetime ban against Sreesanth as he had been banned from playing competitive cricket due to the charges of match-fixing in the seventh edition of the IPL.

However, Sreesanth was acquitted in the case in July 2015. In a hearing in March, the High Court sought BCCI’s stand on the argument filed by Sreesanth challenging the prohibition of playing competitive cricket. He had then appealed for challenging the BCCI’s decision not to lift the ban despite the fact that he had got the green signal from the Delhi High Court in 2015.

BCCI’s affidavit earlier in the year said, “The standard of proof required under a penal statute is much higher than the proof required for a disciplinary inquiry. Therefore, on an appreciation of the same evidence, one may not be guilty of criminal consequences but can be found guilty for violating the internal disciplinary rules of an organization.”
