Tim Paine Scored His Second Century After 13 Years

Australia captain Tim Paine answered the critics as he finally managed to score a century in first-class cricket after a huge gap of 13 years as he smashed a ton at WACA Ground, Perth on Saturday against Western Australia. Interestingly, the last time Paine scored a first-class century, now Australia head coach Justin Langer was opening the innings under the leadership of Ricky Ponting.

Paine was then 21-year-old when he smashed 215 off 409 balls at the same venue against the same team. Batting for Tasmania in his side’s first Sheffield Shield match of the season, the Australian skipper got to his 100-run mark as he cut Western Australian spinner Ashton Agar for a boundary.

His 209-ball 121, which was laced with 13 fours and one six, came to an end after he mistimed a pull shot off Jhye Richardson to get caught off mid-wicket. He brought up his century with a cut shot off Ashton Agar. Here are some of the highlights of his century:

Tim Paine was appointed Australia skipper after Steve Smith stepped down from the captaincy for his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal and he was further got banned from captaincy for 2 years.

The 34-year-old has played 26 Test matches for the Australian team but, interestingly, has not been able to score a single Test century yet. Tim Paine’s leadership came under scanner after he failed to take a series of successful DRS in the Ashes 2019 series.

Paine had an underwhelming Ashes series that was drawn 2-2. He scored just 180 runs from 10 innings at an average of 20. Last year in a 4-mount home series against India, Australia lost the series by 2-1 and the visitors won their first-ever series down under.
