On Friday, the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) unveiled a new logo ahead of the 2020 edition of the tournament which gets underway on March 29. Announcing the new logo, RCB tweeted: “Embodying the bold pride and the challenger spirit, we have unleashed the rampant lion returning him to the Royal lineage”.
RCB has never won the title in the history of the cash-rich league but it is fair to say that they are one of the most followed franchises in the IPL. Under the leadership of Virat Kohli, the team has never been short of stalwarts over the years but the franchise has failed to get over the line in crunch situations.

Royal Challengers Bangalore, who are yet to lift the coveted IPL trophy, on Wednesday had changed the name of their official Twitter handle. They removed display and cover pictures and changed the name to ‘Royal Challengers’. The same was done on their Instagram and Facebook accounts.
Since finishing as the runners-up in the 2016 edition, the Bangalore-based franchise has finished with a wooden spoon twice in the past three editions. But that hasn’t fazed RCB one bit. In 2016, RCB cruised to the final of the tournament but they have been struggling since.

After revealing a fresh logo, RCB also treated their fans by presenting a new-look jersey for IPL 2020. The jersey is perfectly balanced in two red and black halves, separated by a golden stroke.

However, Virat Kohli, who is currently on a tour to New Zealand, took to his Twitter handle and showed his support for the newly-introduced logo of the Bangalore-based franchise. He tweeted: “LOGO ka kaam hai Kehna. Thrilled to see our new RCB tweets logo. It embodies the Bold pride and challenger spirit that our players bring to the field. Can’t wait for #IPL2020 #NewDecadeNewRCB.”

Amid the fans’ bashing, it was none other than their ex-chairman Vijay Mallya, who joined the bandwagon and took a hilarious dig at RCB for their failure to clinch the IPL trophy yet. Tweeting the clip of RcB’s journey, they wrote: “A new chapter begins”. Replying to the same, Mallya wrote: “Great…but win the trophy!”

Mallya, last February, resigned as chairman and non-executive director of Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited (RCSPL) who runs RCB. Since his resignation last year, Mallya has not been associated and involved in any operations of the franchise whatsoever.
