Former India cricketer and 1983 World Cup winner Madan Lal feel IPL is way too big of an event and should not be played behind closed doors. The recently-appointed member of the Cricket Advisory Committee feels its senseless to play IPL inside closed doors without any fans. Lal’s comments contradict the ideologies of many current and former cricketers who wish to see the tournament to happen in an empty stadium.

“There’s no point in playing IPL matches in front of empty stands. It’s not just about the players and the fans, it’s about other people who are also involved in the process while travelling, organising, broadcasting, etc. Once situation improves, other series will also take place and BCCI can totally recover for the lost time,” Lal said.
The 13th season of IPL 2020 was scheduled to commence on April 29. However, it was rescheduled to April 15 due to the pandemic outbreak of the Corona Virus. The Indian government has implemented a 3-week lockdown to contain the spread of the novel virus. IPL is most likely to be shifted as far as the current window is concerned.

“IPL is a big brand. But the board can only take a decision once the situation improves and coronavirus is gone. At the moment, it’s on upstage. So, no one is going to take a risk. Once coronavirus is gone, cricket can obviously take place because it’s such a popular sport and is loved by all. Even the players would like to play in front of crowds and that can only happen once the situation fully improves.” Madan Lal said.
Former IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla also commented that may be impossible for IPL to happen current scenario.
