Former Indian opener, Aakash Chopra has claimed that Delhi Capitals (DC) may have to look for a new skipper and coaching staff next season after their hopes of reaching the playoffs took a massive blow with their loss to CSK. DC had appointed David Warner as their skipper as Rishabh Pant is taking time to recover from the injuries. The backroom staff is led by former Australian skipper, Ricky Ponting, who is the head coach of the side.

However, things haven’t worked according to plan for the Capitals in IPL 2023. They started their season with a five-match losing streak. DC showed some life in their next five matches, winning four of them but their hopes of making it to the playoffs are almost done after the loss to CSK on Wednesday.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, as per the quotes in Sportskeeda, Chopra said that he feels DC’s season is over after their loss to CSK.

Aakash Chopra explained, “Delhi – I feel the season is over now because you will be able to reach 14 points and your net run rate is very ordinary in any case. It is probably the time for churning there. Delhi might have to change their coaching staff and captain in the coming year.”

The former cricketer went on to say he would be surprised if some changes aren’t made to the coaching staff and skipper as he feels that the team’s strategies this year baffled him. Chopra went on to elaborate on how the DC think tank has used players like Axar Patel, and Sarfaraz Khan among others, and said some of the ideas just defied logic.

Elaborating the same, Aakash Chopra said, “When Delhi look back and see, they should definitely ask the question that what their players did was on one side, but what is your think tank doing? You don’t use Axar Patel properly. You played Sarfaraz Khan, then dropped him, and after that, he was in and out. Aman Khan plays well and you dropped him down the order. You played Lalit Yadav but you kept him down the order and sent Ripal Patel ahead of them. Sometimes it just defies logic.”
