Abhishek Nayar Appointed As The Mentor For Kolkata Knight Riders

The former Mumbai player Abhishek Nayar has been named as the mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders this IPL season, he was appointed as the head coach of KKR academy which was started last year to train the youngsters with their games in a bid to work on their skill sets.

Venky Mysore better known as the CEO of the Kolkata Knight Riders announced the coaching staff along with the supporting staff on his official Twitter account writing: The team behind the team! Using the hashtag #KKRHaiTaiyaar

Jacques Kallis will continue as the head coach of the team for his 4th continuous season since he took over in 2016 season after the resignation of Trevor Bayliss who coached the Knight Riders from 2012-2015 and won them the two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014.

Carl Crowe the English first-class cricketer will be taking care of the spinning department and will be working with Narine, Chawla, Kuldeep, and all-rounder Joe Denly.

AR Srikant continues as the Performance Analyst, Wayne Bentley Phillips is the Team Manager and Vidya Sagar as the Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach.

Abhishek Nayar who had played for IPL franchises like Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals has played 60 IPL matches and scored 322 runs in just 19 innings, he was a lower-middle order batsman coming at 7 and had the ability to smash big blokes in rows. Nayar plays first-class cricket and has been transferred from Mumbai to Puducherry at domestic level.

Nayar was also a mentor to Dinesh Karthik who captained the Knight Riders for the first time and Karthik had credited Nayar after his match-winning knock in the Nidahas Trophy Final where he said ” He (Abhishek Nayar) has been the most important factor in the last two and half years in my career. He has helped me prepare for games. He has made me think in terms of strategy. He also knows what is the right way to work hard. He has been the river and I have been the boat”.

The Kolkata Knight Riders will play their first match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at home Eden Gardens, as they were knocked out by the same opponent in last year’s qualifier round 2 finishing 3rd in the 2018 IPL.
