Former England skipper Michael Vaughan told the BBC before the T20 World Cup 2021 that Australia stand no chance to win the tournament as they don’t give much about the T20I format. He backed England, India, West Indies and Pakistan to do well in the tournament.

Two of those four teams couldn’t make it to the semifinals. Australia were not given much chance before the tournament but they came out with all guns blazing.

After winning the final, Adam Zampa tried to pull Michael Vaughan’s leg by quoting his statement and sharing a celebration picture from the Australia dressing room.

“I’ll say it now, I don’t give Australia much chance. In t20 cricket they have struggled. I don’t see Australia doing too much. England, India, West Indies, New Zealand, Maybe Pakistan?” read the caption.

“I’ll say it now, I don’t give Australia much chance. In T20 cricket they’ve struggled. Glenn Maxwell’s exceptional so he will have to have an incredible tournament,” Vaughan had told BBC.

“But I don’t see the Aussies doing too much. England, India, West Indies, New Zealand, one of those four and maybe Pakistan because of the conditions,” he had added.

Zampa had an outstanding tournament as he picked up 13 wickets in seven matches. He was a potential man to be named the player of the tournament but David Warner clinched the award for scoring 289 runs in seven games.
