In a high-scoring second T20I at The County Ground on June 8, Adil Rashid found himself at the receiving end of some brutal West Indian power-hitting. The seasoned England leg-spinner was hammered for five sixes in the 19th over—three by Jason Holder and two by Romario Shepherd—as West Indies posted a challenging total despite early setbacks.

Adil Rashid’s final figures read 4-0-59-1, making it a tough outing for the otherwise dependable spinner. Rashid, who had already conceded 28 runs in his first three overs, was brought in to bowl the penultimate over by skipper Harry Brook. But the move backfired. Holder started the onslaught with three towering sixes: the first a pull over deep square leg, the second a clean loft over long-on, and the third a mishit that still cleared the ropes.

After a single, Romario Shepherd added to Rashid’s misery by smashing the final two deliveries for massive sixes. The onslaught brought back memories of Yuvraj Singh’s iconic six sixes off Stuart Broad in the 2007 T20 World Cup—Broad still holds the dubious record for most runs conceded in a T20I over by an English bowler. Rashid came dangerously close to joining that club but was spared by that solitary single.

Earlier, the West Indies rode on solid contributions from Johnson Charles (47), Shai Hope (48), and Rovman Powell (34) to build a foundation. The late fireworks from Holder and Shepherd propelled them to 196/6, with 48 runs coming off the final two overs. Luke Wood was the pick of the bowlers for England, bagging two wickets.

In response, England chased down the target in 18.3 overs, thanks to a team effort with the bat. Jos Buttler (46), Ben Duckett (30), Harry Brook (34), Jacob Bethell (26), and Tom Banton (30*) ensured England crossed the line with four wickets in hand, sealing the series 2-0. The final T20I will be held at The Rose Bowl, Southampton, on June 10.
