South Africa star Aiden Markram has played down speculation surrounding the Lucknow Super Giants captaincy for IPL 2027, insisting that the franchise has several capable leaders who can step into the role following Rishabh Pant’s departure. Pant was recently traded back to Delhi Capitals after being removed as LSG captain at the end of the 2026 IPL season.

His exit has sparked discussions over who will lead the Lucknow-based franchise in the next edition of the Indian Premier League, with Markram emerging as one of the names being considered. However, the South African batter revealed that he has not thought about the possibility of becoming LSG’s next captain.

“I’ve got no idea,” Aiden Markram told ESPNcricinfo when asked about the prospect of leading Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2027. “They can decide whatever they think is best. There’s some quality leaders in that group that we have there, so I’m not too fussed about it. Whoever gets it, I’m sure will take it on and do a good job, but the thoughts haven’t been there just yet,” he added.

Markram is currently captaining Manchester Super Giants in The Hundred and admitted he has enjoyed the challenge of playing in the unique 100-ball competition for the first time.

“It comes with its challenges, but it’s been awesome,” he said. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. It obviously helps a lot to have guys like Jos Buttler around. He’s helped me quite a bit.”

He also spoke about adapting to The Hundred’s distinctive format, particularly the challenge of bowling sets of 10 consecutive deliveries from one end. After scoring just 67 runs across his first four innings of the tournament, Markram returned to form with his maiden half-century for Manchester Super Giants against MI London on Sunday.

“I’ve struggled, but tonight was a bit better,” Aiden Markram admitted. “The wicket was obviously good, and when you’re struggling for runs, a surface like that gives you confidence. It was disappointing to get out when I did because it felt like one of those nights where a really big score was possible. Still, it was nice to find some rhythm and flow, and hopefully I can build on that in the coming matches.”
