Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder Aiden Markram bowled a bizarre delivery in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 game against Rajasthan Royals (RR). The Qualifier 2 match between these teams is underway at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. SRH spinners have been wreaking havoc on the Rajasthan Royals batters throughout the game.

Capitalizing on the spin-friendly conditions, Shahbaz Ahmed and Abhishek Sharma have been exceptional, taking crucial wickets at regular intervals and putting Sanju Samson’s team under significant pressure. Recognizing the favourable conditions for spinners, SRH skipper Pat Cummins decided to introduce Aiden Markram into the attack in the 13th over.

Amidst the tension and high stakes, a moment of unexpected humour lightened the atmosphere. On the second ball of his over, Markram bowled an atrocious delivery that had everyone, including the commentators, in stitches. The ball slipped out of his hand and looped towards short fine-leg, far away from the pitch and nowhere near the batsman, Shimron Hetmyer.

Kevin Pietersen, who was commentating at the time, couldn’t help but laugh, calling it the worst ball he had ever seen in cricket. Despite this comical mishap, Markram quickly regained his composure. On the next ball, which was a free hit, he bowled a well-tossed-up delivery outside off stump.

Shimron Hetmyer attempted an inside-out lofted shot but missed, unable to capitalize on the free hit. Markram’s over, despite its rocky start, effectively built pressure on Hetmyer. This pressure paid off in the next over when Abhishek Sharma dismissed the dangerous batter.

Abhishek Sharma delivered a flat-length ball on off-stump, and Hetmyer, going on the back foot to punch it, completely missed. The ball crashed into the stumps, sending Hetmyer back to the pavilion after a disappointing 4 runs off 10 balls.

This dismissal left Rajasthan Royals struggling at 92/6, edging SRH closer to securing their spot in the IPL 2024 final. Markram’s bizarre delivery might have caused laughter, but his ability to refocus and deliver a tight over exemplified his composure under pressure. His efforts, combined with those of his fellow spinners, have put SRH in a commanding position in this crucial qualifier. The winner of this game will face Kolkata Knight Riders in the final, promising an exciting conclusion to the IPL season.
