Shubman Gill’s purple patch in IPL 2025 has not gone unnoticed, and former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja couldn’t help but draw comparisons with one of the greats—Virat Kohli. Jadeja hailed Gill’s incredible consistency at the top, especially after the Gujarat Titans skipper struck yet another half-century—his fifth of the season and third on the trot—against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Ahmedabad.

Gill’s classy 50 helped Gujarat clinch a comfortable 38-run win and edge closer to a playoff berth. With 465 runs in 10 games, the opener is firmly in the race for the Orange Cap and is leading his side’s charge with composure and maturity.
“It’s almost routine now with Shubman Gill. He’s incredibly consistent. While we already have Virat Kohli in our cricketing folklore, Gill is walking a similar path. His shot selection, temperament, and ability to wait for the bowler’s mistake is what sets him apart,” Ajay Jadeja said on JioHotstar. “Today again, he played those beautiful offside strokes, especially the cover drives. He doesn’t force the game—he lets it come to him.”

Jadeja also praised Gujarat’s spirited fielding effort, which included an athletic catch by Rashid Khan, as the Titans looked to bounce back after their loss to the Rajasthan Royals.

“What stood out today was the energy,”Ajay Jadeja added. “Rashid’s catch, the diving efforts in the outfield—it all showed how determined they were to correct what went wrong in their last match. That kind of urgency and attitude makes a difference.”
Returning pacer Gerald Coetzee echoed the sentiment, crediting the top order for setting solid platforms consistently.

“Our batters are just playing proper cricket shots. There’s not much slogging—just clean, controlled hitting. It may not look flashy, but it’s effective,” Gerald Coetzee said during the post-match conference.
Gujarat Titans now turn their attention to a big clash against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede on May 6—a win there could seal their playoff spot.
