Ajinkya Rahane, Ishan Kishan’s dual centuries helped India C to lift Deodhar Trophy

Ajinkya Rahane and Ishan Kishan’s dual centuries powered India C to the 2018/19 Deodhar Trophy victory after winning the high-scoring final against India B at Delhi on Saturday as Shreyas Iyer’s fighting 148 knock went in vain at the end.

India C captain Ajinkya Rahane decided to bat first after winning the toss. India C had a very powerful start as their openers Ajinkya Rahane and Ishan Kishan provided a double-century partnership by putting a 210-run partnership. Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan played a firing century knock as he scored 114 off 87 balls (11 fours 6 sixes) before losing his wicket.

After Kishan’s dismissal, Rahane carried the innings till the end as he also scored a century. He played the knock of unbeaten 144 runs off 156 balls (9 fours and 3 sixes). Among the other batsmen, only Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav played the double-digit knocks at the late moment. While the no.3 batsman Gill played 26 runs knock, the no.5 batsman Yadav scored 39 runs off 18 balls (only four and 4 sixes). These knocks helped India C to score 352/7 at the end of 50 overs.

Among the India B bowlers, Jaydev Unadkat (3/52) took three wickets while Deepak Chahar (2/83) and Mayank Markande (2/70) took two wickets each.

In reply, the opener Ruturaj Gaikwad and the skipper Shreyas Iyer provided a 116-run partnership for the second wicket. But after that partnership was broken on Gaikwad’s dismissal on 60 runs, they lost the next wickets in regular intervals while Iyer carried the innings from the other end.

In between these, Iyer and Ankush Bains (37) had a 65-run partnership for the fifth wicket but that wasn’t enough for them. Iyer fought till the 43rd over as he scored 148 runs off 111 balls with 11 sixes and 8 fours. However, India B still left 29 runs short from India C’s first innings total as they were bundled out for 323 runs in 46.1 overs.

Among the India C bowlers, Pappu Roy (3/75) bagged three wickets while Navdeep Saini (2/47), Rajneesh Gurbani (2/61) and Vijay Shankar (2/62) picked up two wickets each and Rahul Chahar (1/72) took the other one wicket.
