Former Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane is set to begin a new chapter in his cricketing journey after signing for the Amsterdam Flames in the inaugural edition of the European T20 Premier League (ETPL), which gets underway later this month. The move comes just a month after Rahane announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket, marking a fresh opportunity for the veteran to continue showcasing his experience on the global T20 circuit.

The Netherlands-based franchise confirmed Rahane’s signing on Thursday, adding one of India’s most accomplished batters to its squad. Renowned for his composed temperament, dependable batting, and astute leadership, Rahane represented India in more than 190 international matches across formats and left behind a legacy built on consistency, resilience, and memorable performances, particularly in Test cricket.

Speaking after the announcement, Rahane expressed his enthusiasm about contributing to the growth of cricket in Europe. He believes the continent has enormous potential to emerge as one of the sport’s most exciting frontiers and is eager to play a role in its development.

Former Australian captain Steve Waugh, who serves as the co-founder and Chief Cricket Officer of Amsterdam Flames, welcomed Rahane’s arrival and praised his professionalism and leadership qualities. Waugh described the former India vice-captain as a player who has earned immense respect worldwide through both his performances and conduct on and off the field.

ETPL co-owner Abhishek Bachchan also hailed the signing, calling it a landmark moment for both the Amsterdam Flames and the new tournament. He said the presence of a player of Rahane’s stature would significantly elevate the standard of competition while inspiring young cricketers across Europe.
