Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Ajinkya Rahane offered a reassuring update on his hand injury following their hard-fought 14-run win over Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025. Rahane, who injured his hand while attempting to stop a fierce drive from Faf du Plessis during the 12th over, had to leave the field, handing over the captaincy duties to Sunil Narine for the remainder of the match. Narine’s composed leadership and clinical bowling helped KKR seal an important victory at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Post-match, Rahane addressed the injury concern during the presentation ceremony. “Not bad. I’ll be okay. I’ll be fine,” he said, easing fears of a serious setback. According to a KKR spokesperson, the injury appears minor, but a detailed assessment by the medical team was scheduled for April 30 to determine his availability for the next clash.
Before walking off, Rahane made a solid contribution with the bat, scoring a brisk 26 off 14 balls to help KKR reach a competitive total of 204. He’s been one of the more consistent performers this season with 297 runs from 10 matches, striking at nearly 150 and averaging over 37.

Reflecting on the match, Ajinkya Rahane credited Sunil Narine’s late spell as the turning point. “We were about 15 runs short, to be honest. But we knew we were one or two wickets away from turning the game. That’s exactly what Narine did,” he said.

Delhi Capitals looked in command at 136/3 by the 14th over, with Axar Patel leading a strong chase. But Narine’s double blow—dismissing Axar (43 off 23) and Tristan Stubbs in the same over—turned the tide. He later claimed the vital wicket of Faf du Plessis (62 off 45), finishing with impressive figures of 3/29.
Despite being seventh on the table with nine points from ten matches, Rahane remains hopeful. He acknowledged comparisons with KKR’s late surge in IPL 2021 but emphasised focusing on the present.

“That’s always brought up when things aren’t going well. But the past is the past. What matters now is staying in the moment, building on this win, and moving forward,” Ajinkya Rahane said.
KKR now have a crucial five-day break before they face Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens on May 4—a much-needed breather in what’s turning into a high-stakes season.
