Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered a major setback during their high-stakes IPL 2025 clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, as skipper Ajinkya Rahane was forced to walk off the field with a painful finger injury. In what is virtually a must-win match for KKR to keep their playoff hopes alive, every run and every moment in the field counts.

Unfortunately for the visitors, a fielding mishap involving their captain could not have come at a worse time. The incident occurred on the first ball of the 12th over, which was a no-ball bowled by Andre Russell. Delhi Capitals opener Faf du Plessis, who was batting fluently, leaned into a cover drive and struck the ball firmly towards extra cover, where Rahane was stationed.

Attempting to stop the ball, Rahane failed to collect it cleanly, and it struck him directly on his finger. The immediate concern was visible as Rahane grimaced in pain, and blood was seen dripping from his injured finger. The physio was called in instantly, and after a quick assessment, the skipper was taken off the field for further treatment.

His absence left a leadership void on the field, and KKR had to quickly reshuffle. The experienced Sunil Narine stepped in to take over the on-field captaincy duties during a crucial phase of the match.
