Rajasthan Royals’ young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi endured another disappointing outing with the bat in IPL 2025, falling cheaply against Kolkata Knight Riders in match 53 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Sunday, May 4. Coming off a spectacular century against Gujarat Titans earlier in the tournament, expectations were high.

However, the left-handed opener managed just 4 runs off 2 balls before Ajinkya Rahane pulled off a brilliant running catch to send him back. The dismissal came in the very first over when KKR pacer Vaibhav Arora delivered a well-directed short ball. Suryavanshi attempted a pull shot but mistimed it badly. The ball ballooned toward mid-wicket, where Rahane ran backwards, kept his eyes on it all the way, and completed a superb catch on the move.

The quick exit of the in-form batter was a big early blow to Rajasthan’s innings, especially given his recent heroics. This marks Suryavanshi’s second consecutive low score after that record-breaking ton, indicating a minor slump in form. Forthe  Rajasthan Royals, the early dismissal was a momentum-killer in a match where they were chasing a competitive total.

Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders’ innings struggled for fluency until Andre Russell flipped the script. Sent in earlier than usual, Russell was crawling with just 2 runs off his first 9 deliveries. But what followed was vintage Russell carnage. He exploded for 55 off his next 16 balls, tearing into the Royals’ bowling attack.

Alongside him, Rinku Singh’s quickfire 19 off 6 balls gave the finishing touches. While Raghuvanshi and Rahane provided a stable base, it was Russell’s fireworks that lifted KKR to a formidable total. For RR, the early wicket of Suryavanshi only added pressure to their chase in a must-win clash.
