India’s National Cricket Team saw an unexpected yet thrilling cameo from Akash Deep in the second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park in Kanpur. Coming in at No.9, Akash Deep, known for his bowling, showcased his batting skills as he played a pivotal role in pushing India’s total beyond 280. Borrowing Virat Kohli’s bat, he brought an aggressive edge to the tail-end of India’s innings, entertaining the crowd with his quickfire contribution.

His fearless approach was evident when he faced Bangladesh’s seasoned spinner, Shakib Al Hasan. After cautiously blocking the first ball, Akash Deep took charge and smashed two enormous sixes off the next two deliveries. The first was a towering shot straight down the ground, which put Shakib under immediate pressure.

The second six came off a short delivery that he pulled over deep mid-wicket with impeccable timing, sending the ball a considerable distance. Though his stay at the crease was brief, Akash Deep’s heroics gave India a crucial lead of over 50 runs. He managed two more deliveries before attempting another big shot off Mehidy Hasan Miraz, only to mistime it and find the safe hands of Khaled Ahmed in the deep.

India declared their innings shortly after at 285 for nine, securing a 52-run lead. India’s innings had an aggressive and purposeful intent from the outset. Openers Rohit Sharma (21) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (72) gave the team a flying start, adding 50 runs in just three overs.

 

Following them, Shubman Gill chipped in with a valuable 39, setting the stage for KL Rahul and Virat Kohli to continue the momentum. Rahul smashed a splendid half-century, scoring 68 off 43 balls, while Kohli’s fluent 47 off 35 balls ensured India capitalized on the openers’ foundation.

Akash Deep’s explosive late-order batting added the finishing touches to an already strong Indian innings, putting them in a commanding position. Now, with the ball, Akash Deep will be crucial to India’s plans.
