In a match that had little bearing on the IPL 2025 playoff race, Akash Madhwal produced a memorable moment by knocking over Dewald Brevis with a beauty at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, May 20. Rajasthan Royals (RR) took on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 62 of the tournament — a dead rubber in terms of points, but not short on action.

Brevis, the 22-year-old South African sensation, has been a revelation for CSK since joining as an injury replacement midway through the season. Known for his aggressive strokeplay, he had quickly cemented his place in the top order and emerged as a key asset for the five-time champions.

Batting with confidence, Brevis looked set for another explosive knock as he stitched a valuable 59-run stand with Shivam Dube. He attacked the spinners and fast bowlers alike, reaching 42 off just 25 deliveries, laced with two boundaries and three towering sixes. The momentum was clearly shifting in CSK’s favour — until Akash Madhwal stepped in.

The experienced RR pacer, known for his knack of delivering at crucial junctures, bowled a clever full-length delivery outside off-stump in the 14th over. Brevis, rooted to the crease, attempted a big swing over long-on but could only manage an inside edge. The ball cannoned into the stumps, sending one of the bails flying, as Madhwal celebrated a timely breakthrough.

The dismissal not only ended Brevis’ promising innings but also halted CSK’s charge in the middle overs. It was yet another example of Akash Madhwal’s ability to break partnerships and deliver under pressure — a silver lining in what has been a tough season for Rajasthan Royals.
