Akash Singh produced one of the most memorable moments of the match between Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans on Thursday (May 22) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After leaving the field earlier with a nasty hand injury, the young left-arm pacer returned to not only make an impact with the ball but also light up the evening with a celebration that stole the show.

In the 10th over of Gujarat Titans’ chase of a mammoth 236, Akash clean bowled Jos Buttler with a brilliantly disguised slower delivery. Buttler, looking to accelerate, was completely deceived by the change of pace. He played through the shot far too early, only to watch the stumps shattered behind him. It was a crucial breakthrough, and Akash didn’t hold back in his celebration.

What followed next had fans on their feet—Akash pulled out Digvesh Rathi’s iconic ‘notebook celebration,’ pretending to jot something down before pointing toward the LSG dugout. It was a subtle yet powerful tribute to Rathi, who missed the game due to suspension. The gesture sparked a wave of cheers from teammates and spectators alike.

Interestingly, Akash’s journey in the match was already dramatic. In the 6th over, he attempted to stop a ferocious straight drive from Shubman Gill and ended up with a bloodied right hand. After being treated by the physio and temporarily going off the field, he made a heroic comeback—and what a way to do it.

At the time of writing, Gujarat Titans were 135/3 in the 14th over. Despite solid starts from Sai Sudharsan (21), Shubman Gill (35), and Jos Buttler (33), none could play the big innings required. With GT’s top order back in the pavilion, the pressure now lies on their middle order to chase down a daunting total.

Earlier, Lucknow Super Giants posted a formidable 235/2. Mitchell Marsh was the star of the show, hammering 117 off just 64 balls, while Nicholas Pooran added a blazing 56* off 27 balls. The pair’s fireworks set the tone for a high-scoring thriller, and Akash Singh’s comeback moment added the perfect dose of drama.
