Chennai Super Kings spinner Akeal Hosein delivered a game-changing moment in their IPL 2026 clash against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, producing a stunning dismissal to remove the in-form Naman Dhir. The left-arm spinner struck early in MI’s daunting 200-plus run chase, clean bowling Dhir for a three-ball duck with a delivery that showcased both control and deception.

Bowling at around 90.6 kmph, Hosein pitched the ball on a teasing length around middle and leg. What followed was pure craft—the ball straightened just enough after pitching, beating Dhir’s outside edge before crashing into the middle stump.
The dismissal left the Mumbai Indians struggling at 11/3 in the third over, setting the tone for CSK’s dominant start with the ball. Hosein celebrated the breakthrough with his signature mask gesture, adding flair to an already impactful moment.

The 32-year-old didn’t stop there. He followed it up with a wicket maiden, further tightening the screws on MI’s top order. Having delivered steady performances earlier in the season against Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders, Hosein once again proved his value after being picked up by CSK for ₹2 crore at the auction. He also accounted for Danish Malewar, reducing MI to deeper trouble early in the innings.

CSK’s bowling unit complemented Hosein’s brilliance, with Mukesh Choudhary removing Quinton de Kock cheaply. As a result, Mumbai recorded their lowest powerplay score of the season, managing just 29/3 in the first six overs. At one stage, they were reeling at 87/6 after 13 overs, with Suryakumar Yadav and Shardul Thakur attempting to stabilise the innings.

Contributions from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Dewald Brevis ensured momentum, while Allah Ghazanfar and Ashwani Kumar were the pick of MI’s bowlers.
