Alex Carey put on a fielding masterclass in Australia’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash against England at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. While he is primarily known as a wicketkeeper, Carey proved that he is just as valuable as a fielder, pulling off a series of spectacular catches that left fans and players in awe.

Carey made an instant impact in the second over, leaping to his right at mid-on to take a breathtaking one-handed catch that dismissed England opener Phil Salt. He wasn’t done yet. Later in the innings, Carey showed his athleticism once again by sprinting backward from point and diving to complete a stunning two-handed catch, sending Harry Brook back to the pavilion. His sharp reflexes continued to haunt England as he took a comfortable catch at mid-on to dismiss Jamie Smith.

The most remarkable grab of the day came in the 35th over when leg-spinner Adam Zampa tempted Brook into an aggressive shot. The ball took the outside edge and flew towards point, but Carey, showcasing remarkable anticipation and agility, ran back and flung himself to his left to complete a sensational diving catch. It marked his third take of the match, cementing his reputation as a game-changer in the field.

Though Alex Carey is usually Australia’s designated wicketkeeper, he was replaced by Josh Inglis behind the stumps for this match. Out of his 78 ODIs, this was only the fourth time Carey played purely as a fielder—proving he can shine in any role.
