Ambati Rayudu, the former Indian cricketer, couldn’t hide his disappointment as the Chennai Super Kings faced elimination from the IPL 2024 playoffs after a heart-wrenching loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Their dreams shattered as they succumbed to a 27-run defeat against RCB in Bengaluru on Saturday, May 18, sealing their fate outside the top four.
With 14 points from 14 matches, the Super Kings finished fifth on the points table, narrowly missing out on a playoff berth. Despite being tied on points with RCB, they fell short due to a slightly inferior net run rate (NRR).
RCB set a daunting target of 218/5, powered by a solid opening stand of 78 runs between Faf du Plessis (54) and Virat Kohli (47). Contributions from middle-order batsmen Rajat Patidar (41) and Cameron Green (38) further bolstered their total.

As the match approached its climax, CSK needed 17 runs off the final over, with MS Dhoni leading the charge. A towering six off the first ball ignited hopes, but the subsequent dismissal of Dhoni dashed their aspirations. CSK fell agonizingly short, managing just one run from the last four balls.
Rayudu, who was in the commentary box during the match, struggled to contain his emotions as Jadeja’s valiant effort fell short, signaling CSK’s exit from the tournament.
