After facing a demoralizing loss in the Hamilton ODI by 8 wickets, Team India was raring to make a comeback in the final ODI against New Zealand. However, the similar situation occurred in Wellington as well, as the Indian team was reduced to 18/4. Earlier, the stand-in skipper, Rohit Sharma decided to bat first. However, a strong partnership of almost 100 runs for the 5th wicket between Ambati Rayudu and Vijay Shankar steadied the ship for India.

Rayudu and Shankar amassed 98 runs for the 5th wicket and it gave sufficient room for a comeback to the Indian team. However, the Rayudu started toying with the bowlers after the 35th over and the best testimony for the same came in the 40th overs when he smacked two huge sixes to Colin Munro.

On the 4th ball of the 40th over, Rayudu came down on the knee in order to play the slog sweep and smashed the ball over the deep-square eg boundary for a huge six. Munro bowled a length ball on the middle stump but the batsman was quick enough to judge it and smash it for a six. However, he couldn’t replicate the same on the next ball but on the alternate delivery, he punished the bowler again.

Coming into the last ball of the over Munro decided to deliver slower ball but Ambati had anticipated it already and again sweetly timed slog sweep for a much bigger six but it was much squarer as compared to the last one. It was an 87 meter six.

Team India was bundled out for 252 on the penultimate ball of the innings, but one has to say that it can be winning score in Wellington.
