Arun Dhumal has made it clear that the IPL wants players to focus on cricket first and leave content creation to others. As IPL 2026 approaches its conclusion, the tournament has delivered thrilling matches, standout performances, and a fair share of controversies. Alongside the on-field action, protecting the league’s integrity and reputation has become a major priority for both the IPL governing council and the BCCI.

In the modern era, several cricketers enjoy massive social media followings and regularly engage with fans through reels, videos, and behind-the-scenes content. However, growing concerns around security, protocol compliance, and player conduct have prompted the BCCI to issue a detailed seven-page advisory to all IPL franchises.
Speaking to RevSportz, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal explained the reasoning behind the move. He stressed that a cricketer’s primary responsibility is to perform on the field and not to become a content creator. “I don’t think cricketers need to be content creators.”

He added, “The cricketer’s job is to play good cricket. If they do so, there will be enough and more good content created about them. So they don’t need to turn into content creators and start creating reels, shorts, or other posts. It isn’t needed, and a line had to be drawn.”
The issue gained attention earlier this season when Punjab Kings pacer Arshdeep Singh frequently made headlines for his Instagram reels and videos featuring teammates. While the content was largely viewed as light-hearted, it reportedly raised concerns among officials about maintaining professionalism during the tournament.

Following the BCCI’s advisory, several players who were actively posting content during the season have significantly reduced their social media activity. Dhumal clarified that the advisory does not introduce drastic new rules but rather reinforces guidelines already in place.
“Most of the things we have mentioned in the seven-page letter were already there,” Arun Dhumal said. “If you go and see, you will know there is nothing fundamentally new that we have asked for. Rather, seeing that things weren’t being followed, we needed to reinforce every point, and that’s what was at the root of the letter. Every franchise and every player has now been reminded what is expected of them, and that’s all there is to it.”

According to the BCCI, the advisory was prompted by several incidents involving players, support staff, and team officials that allegedly breached established protocols during IPL 2026. The board believes such violations could harm the league’s reputation and expose franchises and individuals to potential legal and security risks.
As the IPL continues to expand its global influence, the BCCI remains focused on ensuring that professionalism, discipline, and accountability remain at the heart of the tournament.
