All-rounder Ashutosh Sharma has been ruled out of Hampshire’s One-Day Cup clash against Derbyshire on Tuesday after sustaining an injury during the team’s previous match. Hampshire confirmed the setback but did not reveal the nature or severity of the injury, leaving uncertainty over how long the Indian cricketer could remain sidelined.
The injury comes at a crucial stage of Hampshire’s campaign. The county side currently sits fourth in its group after collecting four wins from seven matches and will be keen to maintain its push for qualification. “Ashutosh Sharma is unavailable due to an injury he picked up during Sunday’s match – pace bowler Harry Petrie, who featured in the opening three games of the competition, comes back in,” Hampshire stated.
Ashutosh has endured a difficult campaign with the bat, scoring only 56 runs in seven One-Day Cup appearances. His highest score so far is just 16, but his impact with the ball has been significantly more impressive.

Bowling medium pace, the 28-year-old has emerged as Hampshire’s leading wicket-taker in the competition, claiming 14 wickets at an excellent average of 15.92. His ability to contribute consistently with the ball has been one of the major positives of his season despite his struggles with the bat.
In Ashutosh’s absence, Hampshire have recalled Harry Petrie, who played in the county’s first three matches of the tournament. Petrie provides an immediate replacement as Hampshire look to strengthen their position in the group and secure a place in the next stage.

The extent of Ashutosh’s injury remains unclear, and it is yet to be determined whether he will miss more matches beyond Tuesday’s fixture.
Ashutosh represents Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, with the franchise having a connection to Hampshire through their ownership group. Over the last two IPL seasons, he has scored more than 350 runs for Delhi at an impressive strike rate of around 170 and an average of 31.25.
He began his domestic career with Madhya Pradesh in 2017 before moving to Railways. Since then, Ashutosh has featured in 92 matches across formats. In List A cricket, he has scored 458 runs and taken two wickets in 21 appearances.

His IPL breakthrough came with Punjab Kings, where he made his debut as an Impact Substitute and immediately impressed by smashing 31 runs from just 17 deliveries.
