On Wednesday night, India claimed a thumping 8-wicket victory (with 126 balls remaining) against their arch-rivals Pakistan in the Group A game of the Asia Cup 2018 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed decided to bat first after winning the toss. However, Pakistan was bundled out for just 162 runs in 43.1 overs.

In reply, the Indian cricket team comfortably chased down that target in just 29 overs after losing only their opening batsmen.

Here are some of the statistical highlights of the match:

i) Pakistan was bundled out for just 162 runs.

  • Lowest completed ODI total for Pakistan at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Their previous lowest completed ODI total at this venue was 207 (46.2 overs) against Australia on April 24, 2009.
  • Pakistan’s third lowest completed Asia Cup total against India. The top two in this list are 134 (at Sharjah on April 13, 1984) and 142 (at Dhaka on October 31, 1988).

 

ii) Seven Pakistan batsmen failed to reach the double-digit scores before getting out.

  • Joint most number of Pakistan batsmen have been dismissed in the single-digit scores in a match of the Asia Cup history. Previously, against Sri Lanka in the 2004 Asia Cup at Colombo (RPS), seven Pakistan batsmen had been dismissed in the single-digit scores.

iii) Indian right-arm pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar had a bowling figure of 7-1-15-3.

  • The second best bowling figure by an Indian pacer against Pakistan in the Asia Cup history. The record is 5-1-17-4 by Venkatesh Prasad at Colombo (SSC) on July 20, 1997.

iv) Indian off-spinner Kedar Jadhav had a bowling figure of 9-1-23-3.

  • The second best bowling figure by an Indian spinner against Pakistan in the Asia Cup history. The record is 9-0-21-5 by Arshad Ayub at Dhaka on October 31, 1988.

v) India won this match by 8 wickets with 126 balls to spare.

  • India’s largest ODI victory (by the balls remaining after winning the game) against Pakistan. The previous record was India won by 5 wickets with 105 balls remaining at Multan on February 16, 2006.  
  • India’s joint largest ODI victory (by wickets) against Pakistan. It was the sixth time when India beat Pakistan in an ODI match by 8 wickets.
