Ayush Badoni and Atharwa Taide shined, Arjun Tendulkar dissapointed in U-19 debut

Indian cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar has not got a good start in his U-19 international debut. While India U-19 beat Sri Lanka U-19 in the first youth Test of the two-match Test series at Colombo, Arjun disappointed and shined Ayush Badoni and Atharwa Taide.

Sri Lanka U-19 decided to bat first after winning the toss. In the first innings, the hosts were bowled out for 244 runs where left-arm spinner Harsh Tyagi (4/92) and off-spinner Ayush Badoni (4/24) picked up four wickets each. The left-arm pacer Arjun Tendulkar (1/33) picked up one wicket.

In that innings, Pasindu Sooriyabandara (69) was the only Sri Lankan batsman to score 50+ runs.

In reply, opener Atharwa Taide and middle-order batsman Ayush Badoni scored centuries while no.9 batsman Arjun Tendulkar scored a duck.

Opener Taide provided a good start and scored 113 runs before getting out caught and bowled. While the other opener and skipper Anuj Rawat scored 63 and middle-order batsman Nehal Wadhera scored 82 runs, Badoni played a massive innings as he remained unbeaten at the end of the innings for 185 runs. These important knocks helped the Indian U-19 team to put 589 runs on the board as they had a 345 runs lead at the end of the first innings.

Among the Sri Lankan bowlers, off-spinner Kalhara Senarathne (6/170) got six wickets.

In the second innings, Sri Lankan opener Nishan Madushka (104) scored a brilliant century and the no.4 batsman Nuwanidu Fernando scored 78 runs but failed to save the Sri Lanka U-19 team from the innings defeat as the hosts were bundled out for 324 runs and India U-19 won by an innings and 21 runs.

Badoni (2/57) picked up two wickets in the innings while Arjun Tendulkar (1/32) claimed a wicket, but the Mohit Jangra (5/72) took the limelight in that innings by picking up five wickets.
