Chennai Super Kings may have stumbled upon their next big star in Ayush Mhatre. Drafted in as a replacement for the injured Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mhatre has wasted no time making his presence felt. In just a few matches, the young opener has not only cemented his spot but also emerged as a reliable force at the top of the order.

In Sunday’s clash against Gujarat Titans, Mhatre unleashed his fury on pacer Arshad Khan, smashing 28 runs in a single over — one of the most brutal assaults in CSK’s IPL history. It all started in the second over with a couple of runs, but then the fireworks began. Two towering sixes, a boundary, and yet another massive six followed, leaving Arshad and the Titans stunned. That onslaught tied Mhatre for the fifth-highest runs scored by a CSK batter in one over in IPL history.

At the toss, MS Dhoni, ever the pragmatist, opted to bat first, commenting on the dry Chennai heat and pitch conditions. “Every year is a new challenge.
