Bangladesh women’s cricket team creates a history after beating Indian women’s cricket team in the ongoing 2018 Women’s T20 Asia Cup. While it was the first women’s international cricket victory for Bangladesh against India in any format, it was the first defeat for Indian women cricket team in the women’s Asia cup history (both in ODI or T20I format).
Indian women’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur decided to bat first after winning the toss at Kuala Lumpur. Indian women managed to score 141/7 in 20 overs while Bangladesh women successfully reached the target in 19.4 overs after losing only 3 wickets as they won by seven wickets with just 2 balls to spare. Rumana Ahmed’s all-round performances helped the Bangladesh women team to create a history on the day.
Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (42 runs) and Deepti Sharma (32 runs) played major roles in the middle-order batting line-up during the Indian innings. No.3 batter Pooja Vastrakar (20 runs) was the only other woman in that innings to reach the 20-run mark.
Among the Bangladeshi bowlers, leg-spinner Rumana Ahmed (3/21) picked-up three wickets while the off-spinner Salma Khatun (1/21) picked up one wicket. During the Indian women’s innings, three dismissals were run-out.
Chasing down that target, Rumana Ahmed also showed her batting skills as she was not out on 42 runs off 34 balls. No.3 batter Fargana Hoque was the highest scorer with an unbeaten 52-run knock off 46 balls. Earlier, wicketkeeper-opener Shamima Sultana also played an important knock of 33-run.
Rumana Ahmed received the Player of the Match award for her outstanding all-round performances.
On the other hand, Thailand women beat Malaysia Women and Pakistan Women beat Sri Lanka women on the same day. Malaysia Women were restricted for just 36/8 at the end of 20 overs which Thailand chased down successfully in 9 overs after losing only one wicket.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Women put a 137-run (136/4) target for Sri Lanka Women which the island replied on 113/9 in 20 overs.
