The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a monumental cash reward of INR 51 crore for the Indian women’s cricket team after their historic triumph in the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup. Under the inspiring leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, India clinched their maiden World Cup title by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in a thrilling final at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

The victory marked a new chapter in Indian women’s cricket, ending years of heartbreak following their near misses in 2005 and 2017. This time, in front of a packed home crowd, the “Women in Blue” delivered a performance for the ages.

Interestingly, the BCCI’s reward surpasses the official ICC prize money. While the ICC will hand out USD 4.48 million (approximately INR 39.78 crore) to the champions, the Indian board has gone above and beyond to recognise the team’s incredible effort.

Speaking to ANI, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the special bonus, emphasising the board’s desire to acknowledge the players’ remarkable achievement. “We must thank Jay Shah, who, as ICC Chair, ensured a 300 per cent increase in the Women’s World Cup prize money just a month before the tournament.

But beyond that, today’s victory at DY Patil Stadium has made every Indian proud. Without touching the ICC’s prize fund, the BCCI will independently reward the team with INR 51 crore, which will be distributed among players, selectors, and the support staff led by coach Amol Muzumdar,” Saikia stated.

The final itself was a showcase of India’s dominance across all departments. After being put into bat, India posted a formidable 298 runs, thanks to Shafali Verma’s explosive 87-run innings that set the tone for the contest. In reply, South African skipper Laura Wolvaardt fought valiantly with a stunning century, but her efforts went in vain as Deepti Sharma’s five-wicket haul dismantled the chase.

Adding to the heroics, Shafali Verma contributed with the ball as well, picking up two crucial wickets to seal India’s emphatic win. Her all-round brilliance earned her the Player of the Match award, symbolizing the fearless spirit of this young Indian side.

This victory not only crowned India as world champions for the first time but also cemented their place as a powerhouse in women’s cricket—ushering in a new era of pride, recognition, and equality in the sport.
