BCCI Finalises The CAC TO Recruit New Selectors

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally made announce the appointment of its Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) on Friday. Former India coach Madan Lal, former fast bowler RP Singh and India women cricketer Sulakshana Naik have been named in the three-member CAC.

In a statement released by the BCCI, Secretary Jay Shah said, “The term of appointment will be for one year. and their key area of work during their tenure will be in the appointment of the national selectors – men’s and women’s – as well as that of the appointment of the women’s national coach once the current coach, WV Raman’s, tenure come to an end in December 2020.”

Madan Lal was part of India’s 1983 World Cup winning squad and later served as Team India coach and a selection committee member. The CAC members will now be recruiting the replacements for outgoing selectors MSK Prasad and Gagan Khoda. The 68-year-old former bowler claimed 71 wickets in 39 Tests and 73 wickets in 67 one-day internationals for India.

Former left-arm fast bowler RP Singh, the youngest in the three-member committee played 14 Test matches, 58 ODIs and 10 T20Is for the country in which he had scalped as many as 40, 69 and 15 wickets respectively. He was a part of the Indian squad that won the World T20 in South Africa in 2007.

Naik played 2 Tests, 46 ODIs and 31 T20Is for the Indian women’s team in a career spanning 11 years as a wicket-keeper batter.

The CAC, which is also supposed to pick the head coaches for the national teams, but it was not in existence ever since Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad, and Shantha Rangaswamy stepped down last year after the conflict of interest allegations were leveled against them.

Earlier, Gautam Gambhir was rumored to be a part of the three-member committee but he has now been replaced by RP Singh, because of the Lodha panel reforms of not having any political figure in the board administrator.
