With a lot of rumors taking round regarding the World Cup clash between India and Pakistan, as the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack, the recent reports have suggested that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to write to the International Cricket Council (ICC) in which they will demand to ban Pakistan out of the showpiece event. The World Cup will kick-off in England and Wales from May 30th and the Virat Kohli and his men are scheduled to face Pakistan on June 16 at Old Trafford in Manchester.
As per a report in India Today, the Committee of Administrators (CoA) Chairman Vinod Rai had an internal communication with BCCI CEO Rahul Johri on Tuesday to write a letter to the ICC requesting a ban on Pakistan from the World Cup for defending terrorism. The report further added that the letter should say that the ‘mood’ in India after the recent terror attack in 40 soldiers lost their lives, is not to entertain any cricketing ties with Pakistan.

This can be a huge step for BCCI considering the outrage over boycotting of Pakistan at the World Cup. The veteran Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh and former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly are among the big names in the Indian cricket fraternity who have called for the Pakistan clash to be boycotted at the World Cup. The cowardly terror attack carried out by a suicide bomber identified as Adil Ahmed Dar on February 14 has left the Indian people in a state of shock and grief.
The terror attack was one of the deadliest in the history of Jammu and Kashmir. JeM – a Pakistan-based terrorist organization claimed responsibility for the attack. A CRPF convoy of around 2,500 soldiers and 78 vehicles was targetted on the Jammu-Srinagar highway. While the attack has seen the government taking some strict actions to corner Pakistan for providing haven to terror outfits like JeM, the cricket fraternity has also come together to show support to the nation.
After several cricket associations in India removed pictures of Pakistani cricketers from their respective stadium, the BCCI too took down pictures and memorabilia of the Pakistani cricketers from its Mumbai headquarters on Tuesday. Johri is likely to represent BCCI in the upcoming ICC meeting which is going to take place on February 27 where the matter can be taken up for further discussion.

However, the government is expected to take the final call on the matter whether India will turn out against Pakistan at the World or not. Talking about the same to Times Now, former BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah said, “India’s relations with Pakistan at our lowest ebb. I ask COA to immediately call for SGM on deciding on India Pakistan World Cup match. The decision however finally rest with the government. If the government decides, then BCCI will have to abide by it.”
