With the intensity of the Indian Premier League 2026 dominating headlines, the focus behind the scenes has already shifted to India’s demanding international calendar. Bumrah’s fitness remains crucial as India look to revive their campaign in the ICC World Test Championship. Currently placed sixth in the standings, the team faces a challenging road ahead, including away Test series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand, followed by a high-stakes five-match home series against Australia.

According to reports, the BCCI is keen on ensuring Bumrah remains available for all nine remaining Tests in this cycle. Managing his workload smartly will be key, especially with a packed schedule across formats. The selectors are reportedly open to resting him during ODI assignments to keep him fresh for the longer format, which has now become the immediate priority.

There is also discussion around resting senior players for the one-off Test against Afghanistan, scheduled shortly after the IPL concludes. However, those players are expected to return for the subsequent ODI series, set to take place in Mullanpur from June 6. The idea is to strike a balance between recovery and maintaining match readiness.

India’s red-ball ambitions remain firmly in focus, and Bumrah’s role as the leader of the pace attack cannot be overstated. His ability to deliver across conditions makes him indispensable to the team’s plans.
