The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that it is actively exploring a revised schedule and alternate venues for the suspended IPL 2025 season, following rising cross-border tensions with Pakistan. In an official statement released on Friday, May 9, the board announced that the league will remain on pause for at least one week amid national security concerns.

The decision comes after the high-stakes match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was abruptly called off midway due to escalating military activity. Air raid sirens in parts of Jammu and Pathankot signalled the seriousness of the situation, prompting the BCCI to convene an emergency meeting early Friday to assess the path forward.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week,” the statement read. “Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders.”

The IPL Governing Council, in coordination with franchise representatives, broadcasters, and sponsors, reached the decision after growing concerns were raised by players and support staff. While reaffirming its confidence in the Indian armed forces, the BCCI emphasised that the move was made in the broader interest of everyone involved.

“The board believes there is no greater priority than the sovereignty, integrity, and security of the nation,” it stated. “Cricket may be our heartbeat, but our nation comes first.”

The BCCI also extended its gratitude to official broadcaster JioStar and tournament sponsors for their patience and understanding. With 12 league-stage matches and four playoff games still pending, the board is hopeful that the tournament might resume as early as May 17, depending on how the situation evolves.
