The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is actively working on a plan to resume the suspended IPL 2025 season, which was abruptly halted for a week due to heightened military tensions between India and Pakistan. With the situation evolving rapidly, the BCCI is now exploring alternate venues and timelines to ensure the tournament can continue with minimal disruption.

According to a report by the Times of India, the board is contemplating shifting the remainder of the league to relatively safer zones in the eastern and southern regions of the country. Cities like Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad have emerged as potential hubs should the league restart within the coming week.
“A week can make a huge difference in such volatile scenarios,” a senior BCCI official told TOI. “We’re preparing a contingency plan. If things stabilize, we might return to the original venues. But for now, the board is leaning towards cities in the east and south.”

However, if the border conflict worsens or prolongs, the BCCI might consider rescheduling the rest of the tournament to a post-England series window. India’s Test tour of England, scheduled from June to August, is already packed, making rescheduling a logistical challenge. The availability of adequate security personnel also remains a significant concern.

Adding to the complexity is the looming Asia Cup in September, which now finds itself under a cloud of uncertainty. India is slated to host the tournament, but the ongoing geopolitical strain, especially involving Pakistan, could derail those plans. Furthermore, the communal unrest in Bangladesh has put the Indian team’s scheduled tour there in doubt as well.
“There are real concerns. We need government clearance to host Pakistan or even send our team to Bangladesh,” the source added. “And with the Asia Cup’s fading relevance, prioritizing player safety and schedule integrity is key.”

The BCCI must also consider the stance of overseas players, who might be reluctant to continue under the current conditions, potentially impacting the quality and global appeal of the IPL. All eyes are now on how the situation unfolds in the coming days.
