The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, which will be played in England and Wales from May 30. Everyone was surprised with Ambati Rayudu’s omission from the team, who was almost certain to play at number four in the World Cup. The 15-man squad saw the inclusion of Vijay Shankar, Dinesh Karthik and KL Rahul while Rishabh Pant also missed making the cut.

Kohli opined Rayudu at number four

Rayudu was the leading contender in India’s search for an ideal number four batsman, who can anchor the innings for the team when in need. Indian captain Virat Kohli gave a green signal to him after the Asia Cup 2018 and said he will be India’s number four. But seeing himself missing from the squad took Rayudu with surprise.

He couldn’t control his emotions and revealed his feelings after the selection. He tweeted, “Just ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the world cup.”

This sarcastic comment was a reply to MSK Prasad’s statement, where he said Vijay Shankar provides a three-dimensional quality gave him an edge over Rayudu.

BCCI didn’t take this sarcastic comment too seriously but they have definitely noticed the words but they are not taking any action against Rayudu.

“We have taken note of what Rayudu has tweeted. (But) Let’s accept that emotions are running high at this moment. There is bound to be a disappointment and there needs to be an outlet of expression as long as it’s not out of line,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by The Quint.

Dinesh Karthik also make it to the squad

“He will need some time to soak in the disappointment and it’s understandable. There is no need for sanctions. Also, he is one of our standbys. If any injury happens there is every chance, he would go,” the official further added.

The Hyderabad-batsman was almost certain for a World Cup-berth but his recent dip in form cost him the place in the tournament.
