BCCI recommends Virat Kohli for Khel Ratna, Dravid for Dronacharya, Gavaskar for Dhyan Chand

India skipper Virat Kohli’s growth as a cricketer and as a leader has been impeccable in the past couple of years.  He is now expected to add another feather to his illustrious cap as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recommended the name of the Indian skipper for the prestigious Khel Ratna award.

Notably, Kohli’s name was nominated by the BCCI in 2016 as well but Olympic medal winners PV Sindhu, Sakshi Malik and Deepa Karmakar were chosen for the award.

Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar has been recommended for Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award.

India captain Kohli has been the face of the sport for some time now and is often compared to the great Sachin Tendulkar for his exploits with the bat. He is currently standing at the number 1 and number 2 positions in ODIs and Tests respectively has shown some tremendous form for India in the past season which saw India top the ODI and Test rankings. Virat has already won the prestigious Padma Shri in 2017 and Arjuna Award in 2013 for his contribution to Indian cricket.

A coach plays a good role in a young team’s success. Former India skipper Rahul Dravid, who led the India U19 side under his mentorship won the World Cup earlier in the year has been nominated as for the Dronacharya award following his success with the U19 team.

Vindo Rai, the CoA chief while speaking to the PTI confirmed the nomination of Rahul Dravid. “Yes, we have sent a number of nominations in various categories to the government. Rahul is the BCCI nominee for the Dronacharya award.”

Sunil Gavaskar

Gavaskar held the record of most Test centuries for a long time and has been a cricket commentator for a long time. He was the first ever cricketer to touch the 10,000-run mark in Test cricket.
