All the major sporting events have either been postponed or canceled due to the pandemic outbreak of the Corna Virus across the globe. The future of ICC T20 World Cup slated in Australia is still in doubt because of the same. The ICC tournament is scheduled to take place between October-November later this year. With cricket boards expected to incur huge financial losses, BCCI will be open to the idea of playing extra matches against other cricket teams, once the world returns to normalcy.

These include team likes of Australia who are in financial turmoil right now having fired 80 percent of the staff amid the coronavirus pandemic. With the ICC World Cup is likely to be canceled, BCCI may add more matches to India’s tour of Australia. The Indian team is scheduled to play in a four-Test series in the land down under later this year.  BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal said that this gesture isn’t just limited to Australia.

“Once things settle down, BCCI will chalk out a plan. There are a few suggestions, for example, we are scheduled to play Zimbabwe in the coming days which might not happen. But we will try to play them once the situation improves. This will give a chance for Zimbabwe to earn money through their TV deals. We will also ask other boards whether they would want to play extra games. It could be Australia, Sri Lanka or any other nation,” Arun Dhumal said.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah laid down the roadmap in an ICC meeting last week which reportedly got positive responses from other associate members.

Dhumal said, “We want to be like a big brother to them in these tough times. Our secretary Jay put forward a proposal during the ICC meeting and everybody appreciated it. The situation won’t be the same again, for sure. Every board will suffer some way or the other. Nobody knows the exact numbers. As our secretary Jay said in the meeting, the BCCI wants to take everyone along. We understand cricket economics. BCCI will help other boards so that they can stand on their feet once things get better.”
