A ferocious hitter of the ball, Dwayne Smith made his Test debut for Windies against South Africa in a Test at Cape Town in January 2004. Apart from being a lethal batsman, Smith is also a part-time right-arm medium bowler. His batting strike-rates are significantly high across formats but he lacks in consistency and his batting average is the testimony to his inconsistent adventures with the bat.
Dwayne made a name for himself in the second edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Deccan Chargers, helping them win the title in the 2009 season. After swapping his team in 2012, to Mumbai Indians, Smith made them win the IPL in 2013 and then the Champions League T20 the same year as well. However, in 2014, he was bought by Chennai Super Kings which changed the fortunes for him.
Smith was also part of the Windies’ triumphant squad that won the ICC World T20 2012 in Sri Lanka. With an attacking style suitable to the shortest format, he has played franchise-based Twenty20 cricket in Australia, England, and Bangladesh in addition to his stints in West Indies and India.

Hard-hitting West Indies batsman Dwayne Smith announced his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday. The all-rounder debuted for the Caribbean team in January 2004 in a Test match against South Africa at Cape Town and last played his international game against the United Arab Emirates in March 2015 in a One-Day International (ODI) in Napier during the ICC World Cup. Smith, who is playing for Islamabad United in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL), made the decision public before the start of the Eliminator against Karachi Kings at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, reports ESPNCricinfo.
The right-hander scored a century on Test debut — a run-a-ball unbeaten 105 which also turned out to be his only century in international cricket — in the second innings of the game. His innings helped the West Indies draw the match. Smith only managed to play in 10 Tests in total, scoring 320 runs with an average of 24.61. He played his last Test appearance was in March 2006 against New Zealand, also in Napier.
In 33 Twenty20 Internationals, he scored 582 runs with the highest score of 72 and three half-centuries. Dwayne has also played in several T20 leagues. He represented Chennai Super Kings, Deccan Chargers, Gujarat Lions and Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
