Royal Challengers Bangalore’s campaign in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 ended with a four-wicket defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Eliminator on Monday (October 11). It was indeed a heart-breaking defeat as Virat Kohli and his men were going through a brilliant form in this season. Having win nine of the 14 games, RCB was the 3rd place at the end of the league stage. Many even believed the side will end its trophy drought this year.

However, KKR dented their plans in the knock-out clash. As RCB failed to qualify for the next stage, all the focus is on the next season. The franchise owners indeed have some big decisions to make as Virat Kohli has resigned as the captain after the 2022 edition. Also, a mega auction will take place which would see teams retaining just a few players.

Besides Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers has been one of the most prolific performers for RCB ever since he has joined the franchise. Hence, many believe RCB must retain the former South African captain. However, former Australian chinaman, Brad Hogg has a completely different opinion. With the Proteas dasher turning 38 next February, Hogg believes it would be risky investing in him.

Brad Hogg expressed his views after a netizen urged RCB to give the leadership responsibility to AB de Villiers with Kohli stepping down. One of the fans had tweeted, “If you want to play ab de Villiers in RCB you should know how to use him not like no 5 or no 6. 2nd thing Virat Kohli steps down from the captaincy so handover to ab de Villiers without any doubt otherwise leave him I mean release him so the other team can buy and take the benefit.”

Contradicting the statement, the former Aussie cricketer said retaining AB de Villiers would be risky as the batter himself isn’t sure about his future. Hence, it would be wise for RCB to land him at a decent price.

Brad Hogg tweeted, “De Villiers is unsure of his future so making a long-term investment on him would be risky for #RCB now. RCB may be wise to put him back in the auction pool this year & try your luck on getting him for a bargain. Nothing about ability it is more about his desire to play #IPL2021.”
