Saurashtra has always been known for being one of the most consistent sides in the Ranji Trophy in recent years and is facing Bengal in the Final of Ranji Trophy 2022-23 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Saurashtra seamer Chetan Sakariya had a dream start to his spell as he got rid of two Bengal batters just in his first over.
Chetan Sakariya bowled an incredible inswinger to dismiss Bengal batter Sudip Gharami who absolutely had no idea as the ball quickly nipped back in to crash his off-stump. Saurashtra is playing their fifth Ranji Trophy final in the last 9 years which shows tells a lot about the consistency of the Jaydev Unadkat-led side. The way the Saurashtra pacers started with the new ball on the first day of the final was a testimony to the quality they possess.
Saurashtra pacer Chetan Sakariya dismissed Bengal Opener Sumanta Gupta on the second delivery of his first over but the best was yet to come. Just on the fourth delivery of his first over, Sakariya executed an incredible inswinging delivery to Bengal batter Sudip Gharami which crashed into his off stump.

Chetan Sakariya bowled a fuller-length delivery around the off-stump line and Sudip Gharami was expecting the ball to move away as Sakariya had used an outswinger to dismiss opener Sumanta Gupta. However, the ball sharply nipped back in and knocked onto his off-stump.

The Bengal batter literally had no idea as he was looking to leave the delivery and had to take the long walk back to the pavilion. Sakariya’s dream over left Bengal at a score of 2 for 3.
Eden Gardens’ spicy pitch kept the bowlers interested throughout the day as the Bengal side were once placed at 65 for 6. Skipper Jaydev Unadkat and Chetan Sakariya took 3 wickets each and didn’t let the Bengal batters settle in the first innings of the final game. Chirag Jani too dismissed a couple of Bengal batters.

Shahbaz Ahmed and Abhishek Porel put on 101 runs for the 7th wicket and allowed the Bengal team to get some sort of recovery. Shahbaz played a sensible knock of 69 runs while Abhishek Porel scored 50 runs. After losing the wickets of Ahmed and Porel, Bengal side got all out for a mediocre score of 174 runs in the first innings making things horrible for them in the Ranji Trophy final.
