On Sunday (13 January), during the T20I game between UAE Women and China Women in the group stages of the 2019 Thailand Women’s T20 Smash at Bangkok, some important records were broken and those were not only in women’s T20I history also in the complete T20I history (including men’s T20I).

After deciding to bat first, UAE Women managed a big total of 203/3 at the end of 20 overs. In reply, China Women were bowled out for just 14 runs and lost the game by 189 runs.

While China Women scored the lowest completed total in overall T20I history, UAE Women achieved the largest victory (by runs) in overall T20I history.

China Women – 14 in 10 overs (Han Lili 4, Ying Zhou 3; Ishni Mananelage 3/0)

Result – UAE Women won by 189 runs

Here are some of the statistical highlights of the match:

i) UAE Women’s openers Esha Rohit and Chaya Mughal provided the 121-run partnership for the opening wicket.

• Best T20I partnership for UAE Women’s cricket history. Their previous record was 110 by Chaya Mughal and Nisha Ali against Netherlands Women at Utrecht on 7 July 2018.

ii) UAE women’s opener Esha Rohit scored 82 runs.

• Best T20I knock by a UAE Women’s cricketer. It was also the second T20I half-century by a UAE Women’s cricketer as Nisha Ali was the previous highest run scorer of 69 runs against Netherlands Women at Utrecht on 7 July 2018.  

iii) Playing only their sixth T20I, UAE Women scored 203/3 in 20 overs.

• Highest T20I total for UAE Women. Their previous record was 146/9 (20 overs) against Netherlands Women at Amstelveen on 14 July 2018.

iv) China Women bundled out for 14 runs.

• Lowest completed total in women’s T20I history. The previous record was 18 by Mexico Women (9.5 overs).
• Lowest completed total in T20I cricket history (including men’s). 39 (10.3 overs) is the lowest completed total in men’s T20I history.

v) UAE Women won by 189 runs.

• Largest victory (by runs) in the women’s T20I history. The previous record holder was Namibia Women who had won by 179 runs against Lesotho Women at Gaborone (Oval 1) on 23 August 2018.
• Largest victory (by runs) in the T20I history (including men’s). In the men’s T20I history, the largest victory (by runs) is 172 runs by Sri Lanka against Kenya at Johannesburg on 14 September 2007.
