The flamboyant Windies opener Chris Gayle smashed as many as five sixes against Bangladesh in the third and final One-day International (ODI) at Warner Park in St Kitts to become the batsman with the most number of sixes in International cricket. The swashbuckling West Indies batsman, who played an impressive knock of 73 runs from 66 balls equaled Pakistan superstar Shahid Afridi’s feat of an identical number of sixes.
Both the swashbuckling batsmen now have 476 sixes under their belt. Gayle achieved the feat in 443 matches while Afridi reached the mark in 524 matches. However, Chris’ power-packed knock on the top of the order failed to help West Indies clinch an ODI series win against Bangladesh — who won the series 2-1.
However, Gayle has certain chances of surpassing Afridi to become highest no. of sixes in International cricket when the West Indies take on Bangladesh in the first of three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) on August 1.
