In a historic move, two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders have shattered records by acquiring the services of Mitchell Starc for an astronomical sum of INR 24.75 crore in the upcoming IPL 2024 auction. This makes Starc the highest-earning cricketer in the history of the tournament, with Pat Cummins closely trailing behind.
Sunrisers Hyderabad secured the services of the Australian skipper by shelling out a hefty INR 20.50 crore, making him the second-highest earner in the competition. “The bidding is out of our control. It is excellent that the best players in the world are being paid the highest. It is an excellent achievement but also brings additional pressure. But they (Cummins and Starc) can handle that pressure, that is why they were bought for so much money. They are performing really well right now and are red-hot,” Chris Morris remarked in an interview with NewsX.
In a recent Test match between South Africa and India at Newlands, the game concluded in less than two days, sparking controversy. India emerged victorious by seven wickets, and captain Rohit Sharma defended the pitch, emphasizing that his team had no issues playing on such surfaces. I would have loved to see Dean Elgar go out with a win, but that is cricket, someone has to lose,” Chris Morris stated, echoing the sentiment of wanting a more competitive and prolonged match.
