England team managed as been quite vocal in saying that they want their players to take part in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to prepare well for the T20 World Cup scheduled to be played in India in October-November this year. England pacer Chris Woakes, who is a regular with the Test squad but has not featured in the T20 squad since 2015, is hoping to use his stint with the Delhi Capitals to make a comeback in the squad of the shortest format for the upcoming World Cup.

Talking about the same during a recent chat with ‘The Guardian’, Cris Woakes said, “I don’t want to rule out the T20 World Cup at all, I still see myself as a three-format cricketer. I’m looking to work on my variations, death bowling, and explore some power-hitting options. Hopefully I can give Morgs (captain Eoin Morgan) and England a reminder of what I can do.”

Talking about his stint with the Capitals, Chris Woakes said, “Delhi have been loyal to me and I want to repay that. It’s my third season in the IPL overall and I have always come back a better cricketer.”

Speaking about the possibility of missing a few Test matches against New Zealand as they will clash with the IPL 2021 play-offs, Woakes said that he will be having a chat with the DC coach Ricky Ponting and the management and will see if he can go back to England if he is not in the reckoning for the matches.

Elaborating the same, Chris Woakes said, “If I’m not in the Delhi XI, I’ll speak to Ricky (Ponting) and the powers-that-be. Of course I want to play at Lord’s, my record there speaks for itself. But those Tests were arranged late. England want us to broaden our horizons in the IPL and, at this stage of my career, these opportunities won’t keep coming up. If it means missing a Test, that unfortunately might be the case.”
