The Indian cricketers will soon be getting a huge salary hike. According to the recent reports, the salaries for international and domestic Indian cricketers are expected to get a 100% hike.
The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA), is trying to come up with a formula that will add INR 200cr to the present revenue of INR 180cr and will be effective from next season.
CoA has will be presenting the formula to the BCCI’s general body, and then teh final call will be taken. But if the new formula gets implemented, that would bring the yearly salaries of Indian players, and domestic too, to a new high. This move will especially be more beneficial for the domestic cricketers, who earn far less than their international players.
One of the sources of TOI close to CoA said, “Senior cricketers are certainly going to get a 100% raise and even domestic players would get the same percentage increase. Since, these cricketers are the reason for BCCI’s revenues, can’t the board afford another Rs 200 crore for their salaries?”
Earlier this month, Virat Kohli along with MS Dhoni and Ravi Shastri had raised the salary issue. Talking about the formula BCCI official further added, “Because of the sheer bulk of the money, the senior Indian cricketers can’t be given half of the projected 26% revenue of BCCI. It would be distributed in such a way that domestic cricketers also get big hikes.”
It is also learned that cricketers like Cheteshwar Pujara, who plays only one format of the game, will also be duly compensated.
