Vinod Rai, the chief of Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrator (CoA) for Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has claimed that the DDCA (Delhi and District Cricket Association) election can get annulled soon due to it held unethically and unconstitutional way.

Recently, on Monday, the journalist and television news channel owner Rajat Sharma has been elected as the new President of DDCA after beating former World Cup-winning cricketer Madan Lal by 517 votes in the recently concluded elections.

Rajat Sharma’s team has clean-swept in those DDCA elections. However, those victories can go in vain as the CoA chief has raised the serious doubt over the election process.

There were many questions have been raised in the recently concluded DDCA elections. According to The Indian Express, while the several DDCA officials fielded their family members for that election – some of them tainted – file nominations, the appointment of the ombudsman has also come under the scanner that was done on the final day of polling.

In The Indian Express, the CoA chief Rai said, “Since these DDCA elections took place without a constitution that is endorsed by the Supreme Court, it can get annulled at a later date.”

Rai further added, “There are very strict conflict of interest norms laid down by the Lodha committee. The ombudsman and an ethics officer ensure that conflict of interest norms are not attracted adversely. These elections took place without the scrutiny of an ombudsman or an ethics officer, so there remains a question mark over the qualification of candidates to fight elections.”

Moreover, Rai also clarified that the family members of office-bearers can take a part in the elections as Supreme Court has not ordered to stop them, but he also added, “There is an element of ethical inadequacy”.

Rai commented about that, “One should be guided more by the spirit of the law than the letter.”
