Former New Zealand opener Colin Munro found himself at the centre of controversy during a high-stakes Pakistan Super League clash when he accused Pakistan all-rounder Iftikhar Ahmed of chucking. The incident occurred during the 10th over of Islamabad United’s chase of 169 against Multan Sultans. As Iftikhar attempted a toe-crushing yorker, Munro reacted angrily, leading to a heated exchange.

Multan captain Mohammad Rizwan also got involved, sparking a tense standoff before umpires Ahsan Raza and Chris Brown stepped in to defuse the situation. Colin Munro, who was anchoring Islamabad’s innings with a fluent 40 off 23 balls at the time, appeared visibly animated by what he perceived as an illegal bowling action.

The confrontation briefly paused the game and drew significant attention on social media. Ironically, Munro was dismissed shortly after the incident — caught by Iftikhar for 45 off 28 deliveries — in a moment thick with irony. Multan had earlier posted 168 on the board, thanks to a well-paced 61 off 40 from wicketkeeper Usman Khan.

Despite losing Sahibzada Farhan early, Islamabad bounced back with a strong 89-run partnership between Munro and Andries Gous. After Munro’s dismissal, Gous combined with Mohammad Nawaz to further consolidate the chase.

Chris Jordan removed Nawaz in the 17th over, but Gous held his nerve and finished the job with a six off Ubaid Shah to seal a seven-wicket win for Islamabad. Gous remained unbeaten and was instrumental in keeping Islamabad’s unbeaten streak intact, with five wins from five games.

Rizwan, reflecting on the loss, admitted his side were short by 15-20 runs and failed to execute at the death. “We needed 180-plus on that surface. We didn’t finish well with the bat, and that cost us,” he said.

Multan face Lahore Qalandars next on April 26, while Islamabad meet them on April 30.
